ESTRO Anniversary Congress 8-12 May 2011

During the past week the ESTRO Anniversary Congress was held in London.

The programme of the congress explored the advancements that have taken place over the last 30 years in the field of radiation oncology for all major tumour sites and discussed: what evidence has been created to date; the evidence that is currently being created and what will be included in future grant applications. As you would expect from an ESTRO congress, these sessions  included an overview and update on the best clinical trials.
Another important element of the programe was the joint sessions with regional and international oncology societies who joint ESTRO at this international meeting and addressed together topics of high relevance such as: How highly developed technology will change our lives; translating research in imaging into clinical practice; new frontiers in metastatic cancers; and much more.
This Anniversary Congress, labeled the ESTRO International Oncology Forum  complemented the two ESTRO conferences that took place in parallel: the GEC-ESTRO- ISIORT Europe Conference and the 11th Biennial Conference on Physics and Radiation Technology for Clinical Radiotherapy.

Few of the members of SYROG assisted to the meeting and presented interesting abstracts.
Moreover, there was an interesting symposium for young scientists in which all the international young groups participated.

Posted you can find a picture of 2 of the members of the group (Arturo Navarro and myself)  in the Spanish Society of Radiation Oncology (SEOR) stand.

These were the ponents and the presentations done in the Young Symposium:

What has ESTRO done for our young members – J Bourhis, V Valentini, V Gregoire
Expectations from young members regarding science – L Muren
Expectations from young members regarding the profession – D Zips
Expectations from young members regarding education – S Rivera
